Certification Service:
From Field to Construction Straw

Mitfahrt auf der Rückseite des Traktors

Would you like to insulate your home with straw from your own field?

Do you run your own farm, or do you know an open-minded farmer in your region?

We take care of the necessary requirements.

A structural-technical assessment is required for the legal use of straw as an insulation material. We offer external certification of construction straw bales so that you can realise your building project using regional and sustainable raw materials.

How construction straw certification works

1.
Inspection

Together, we inspect the raw material in the field and the intended baling press.

2.
Production Support

During our second visit, we accompany you — or your farmer or contractor — during bale production, monitor and document the required parameters, and take samples to determine weed and residual grain content.

3.
Quality Monitoring

We monitor and document all relevant parameters and take samples to determine weed content and residual grain content.

4.
Storage Site Inspection

We also inspect the interim storage location for the bales to ensure that optimal conditions are in place for your ecological insulation material.

Official Certification

If all relevant parameters are met, the result is construction straw bales in accordance with ETA-10/0032 confirmed by a certificate.

Construction Straw – Technical Values according to
ETA 10/0032:

  • Moisture content: < 15%

  • Bulk density: 95–167 kg/m³ (nominal density: 105 kg/m³)

  • Water absorption: Wpa = 7 kg/m² at a bulk density of 105 kg/m³

  • Airflow resistance: r = 3 kPa·s/m² at 100 kg/m³

  • Thermal conductivity: declared value λD(23/50) = 0.046 or 0.082 W/mK depending on installation orientation

  • Design thermal conductivity: λr = 0.050 or 0.085 W/mK depending on installation orientation

  • Reaction to fire according to EN 13051-1: Class E

  • Resistance to biological attack: Class 2

  • Metal corrosion potential: no potential identified
